Hello, my name is Vernon Oickle.

I was born and raised in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, where I continue to reside with my wife, Nancy, and our two sons. After completing high school in 1979, I moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, where I studied journalism. Upon my graduation in 1982 with an honours diploma, I returned to my hometown to begin my newspaper career at The Liverpool Advance. Since then, I have won many regional, national and international awards for writing and photography.

By the time I left The Advance in 1994, I had been appointed editor and had helped the paper become one of Canada’s best weeklies in its circulation class. Today, I am the editor of the nationally award-winning newspapers The Bulletin and The Progress Enterprise, both of which have been named Canada’s best weekly newspaper in their respective circulation class. If you have any questions, suggestions or feedback pertaining to these papers, please contact me. We like to hear from our readers.

In addition to my newspaper work, I am the author of nine books and I am active in several community and professional organizations. I am past president of the Atlantic Community Newspapers Association, and currently serve as chairman of the Liverpool Regional High School Advisory Council and the Dr. John C. Wickwire Academy School Advisory Council. My hobbies include reading, writing, gardening and spending time with my family. My personal interests lie in the entertainment field and with that knowledge I write a blog on southshorenow.ca called “That’s Entertainment?” which I invite you to check out.
